Undressed(Prototypes)
At our studio, self-initiated projects allow us to push boundaries and explore bold ideas without the constraints of a client brief. During a period focused on tableware design, Hiroshi was inspired by NYOTAIMORI, the Japanese tradition of serving sushi on a naked woman’s body, to create a modern and provocative tableware piece unlike any other.
The challenge was to translate this concept into an elegant plate design that reflected the human form in a tasteful and respectful way—avoiding overt sexualization while preserving its essence. Achieving this balance required precision and sensitivity to create a design that was bold yet refined.
Finding a manufacturer willing to take on such a daring concept proved equally challenging. With most porcelain production centered in culturally sensitive regions like India and Bangladesh, the design tested boundaries of cultural and religious norms. Yet, as Hiroshi often says, “Design is a culture,” and breaking barriers is essential to creating meaningful dialogue through design.
